160,000 ha of farmland to go under sugar beet cultivation: Official

Tehran - A record amount of sugar beet is estimated to be produced from both spring and fall cultivation to be carried out on 160,000 hectares of plantations across the country, according to an official with the Agriculture Ministry.
Peyman Hesadi, the operator of the sugar beet plan of the ministry, said, “Some 160,000 hectares of agricultural land in across the country have been allocated for sugar beet cultivation.”
Qazvin province accounts for the largest share with 1689 hectares, he added.
The national average sugar content of sugar beets stands at 15.5 percent, Hesadi noted, adding that ongoing efforts aim to increase this figure through the adoption of improved farming practices and the cultivation of new varieties.
